Bears score record 44 points in the first quarter in a 57-0 win at Gull Lake

(Richland) – St. Joe kept it's perfect record against Gull Lake and this season in dominant fashion. The Bears scored a school record 44 poins in the first quarter in a 57-0 win at Gull Lake to improve to 4-0 this season, and over 9-0 in games against the Blue Devils.

The Bears offense struck often and for the second week in a row, early. St. Joe opened the scoring just 50 seconds into the game when Davis Crossman completed a 42-yard touchdown pass to Bobby Delong along the St. Joe sideline, Crossman again connected to Delong for the 2-point conversion for an 8-0 lead.

Gull Lake went 3 and out on their initial possesion, after taking over on the Blue Devils 46 yard line, Dylan Chapman scored on the first play of the drive, Ryan Klaer ran in the 2 point attempt and the Bears lead was doubled to 16-0.

Chapman's second touchdown run of the game less than four minutes later from 14-yards out gave the Bears a 22-0 lead.

Then the St. Joe defense got in on the scoring. Gull Lake quarterback Zac Pfenning threw a pass near the St. Joe sideline where Blyake Siccurello jumped in front of the Blue Devils reciever and returned the interception 30 yards for the score, James Atterberry ran for the 2 point conversion and a 30-0 St. Joe lead.

On the following Gull Lake drive, the Bears Isaac Codde got into the backfield and intercepted Pfenning pitch pass and returned it for a 13 yard pick six. Jace Hopkins came in to kick the extra point and the Bears took a 37-0 lead.

Davis Crossman added the final score of the first quarter with a 14 yard touchdown run, with Hopkins adding the PAT and St. Joe had the 44-0 lead.

St. Joe then pulled the starters the rest of the game, and whle the Bears second and third string defense preserved the shutout, the Bears backups added a Gavin Keller one yard touchdown run with 27 seconds left in the third quarter to make the score 50-0, before Dinero Mitchell scored on a 38 yard touchdown run with 3:04 left to provide the final margin of 57-0.

St. Joe improves to 9-0 all time against Gull Lake, The Bears have outscored Gull Lake 377-92 in the 9 meetings dating back to their first matchup in the 2006 playoffs at Gull Lake. The Bears also have shut out the Blue Devils twice, including that 14-0 playoff meeting in 2006 and last weeks game.

The Bears are now 4-0 and will face 0-4 Lakeshore to open up SMAC-West Division play at Lakeshore in the annual War by the Shore.
