Bears win weather delayed Homecoming
ST. JOSEPH – The only thing that was able to slow down the Bears offense was mother nature as the severe weather and the threat posed by mosquitoes. Push the Bears game to Saturday.
St. Joe again jumped out to a quick and early lead. Griffin Shinrock scored the first points of the game midway through the first quarter on a 52 yard touchdown run to put the Bears up 7-0.
A long 40 yard pass from Andy Blomgren to Luke Hedstrom less than three minutes later pushed the lead to 13-0 as the first quarter came to an end.
Drake Collins scored on a 2 yard run with 8:46 left in the second quarter to expand the lead to 20-0.
A Malik Immoos interception set up the Bears offense on a short field as Jeremiah Sterling scored on an 11 yard run to make it 27-0.
Loy Norrix would use a big play to break the shutout as Tyler Roberts threw a 68 yard touchdown pass to Derrell Mabon, the point after was intercepted and the Bears lead was 27-6.
After a Norrix punt St. Joe again started a drive inside opposing territory as Sterling scored his 2nd touchdown of the game on a 2 yard run to make the score 34-6 heading into halftime.
St. Joe would receive the kickoff to start the second half and went 52 yards in 5 plays to get a 5 yard touchdown run from Christian Myers to make the score 41-6.
Brent Huff added to the lead on a career long 42 yard field goal with :15 seconds left in the third quarter to expand the lead to 44-6.
Mabon would score his second touchdown of the game for Loy Norrix, with another missed point after and the Bears lead was 44-12.
Loy Norrix would find the endzone on the final play of the game to make the score 44-18, the PAT was not attempted.
Sterling finished with 123 yards rushing on 15 carries and 2 touchdowns. Andy Blomgren finished 9-14 for 151 yards and one touchdown with one interception.
Loy Norrix QB Tyler Roberts was 15-32 for 268 yards and 2 touchdowns, but he was also intercepted 3 times.
